Faith in Action
Buddy/Mentor, Inc began in the fall of 1994 with eight adult mentors working with eight students that Kim Bohannon taught at Barnum Elementary School on Bridgeport’s east side. Today, 16 years later, that program has grown to include 65 of those students, each being mentored by his or her own adult mentor.
All buddies who remain in the program through high school are trained in becoming a junior mentor to another new little buddy. The program now includes a $4,000.00 scholarship fund for each buddy who graduates high school to assist them with further educational endeavors.
The mission statement of Buddy/Mentor is:
"To demonstrate love and compassion for inner city children, enabling them to have faith and hope in God, in themselves and in humanity. "
